Ammonia is a raw material in the production of many nitrogen based fertilizers. It is also a building block for many chemicals, synthetic fibres, explosives and cleaners.

Because ammonium nitrate (AN) contains 100 % ammonium nitrogen, it has the advantage that it provides the plant with nitrogen quickly and at the same time does not lose nitrogen to the atmosphere.

Ammonium phosphates are fertilizers containing mainly nitrogen and phosphate. The most commonly used NP-fertilizers are NP 20-20-0, NP16-20-0, NP 14-34.
